AT THE FRONT
INTRODUCTION TO PROJECT

AN ONGOING PROJECT

New Brighton promenade
What am I trying to say?
You were just on my mind
Do you remember me?”
Boo Radleys, New Brighton Promenade, 1996

At The Front joins John-Lloyd Quayle three years in to his New Brighton journey.

Quayle began photographing the sea-side resort in 2011, as phase one of an £80 million pound re-development, set to bring business and foot-fall back to the once-thriving holiday hotspot got underway. Three years on and the renovation, now approaching its final phase, has been an unprecedented success.

New Brighton, for the first time in years, is awash with day-trippers and holiday makers and Quayle’s acute observations of these people and how they interact with the new space, heartedly forms At The Front’s visual narrative.

The photographs Quayle has taken so far are by no means a journey’s end.
